English must be the student's primary language. Mount Olive is not equipped to handle English as a second language students.
Letters of Recommendation must be filed. These letters must speak to the character of the child, the academic skills of the child, and the parent's involvement in the current school. These letters may be filled out by a current teacher, principal, or pastor.
The applying student will be tested. All applying students will need to make an appointment to take a basic skills test in order to better place the child in our school. Because Mount Olive is not equipped to handle special needs students, we cannot accept any student that we cannot properly and adequately educate.
Federal Income Tax form from the past year must be filed. In order to receive the financial assistance of the Olive Branch Program, financial needs must be verified. Any family that qualifies for the School Choice program in Milwaukee also qualifies for the Olive Branch Program.
An interview with Mount Olive's principal and both the parents and the student will be done prior to admission. In order to better understand if a proper fit will be made on behalf of both the family and Mount Olive, we require all potential families to meet with the school principal.
There are limits to the class sizes. Because we believe in a quality education, Mount Olive has limited the class sizes to 20 and has limited the number of additional students to each class.
A commitment to active church membership — We firmly believe in the power of God in our everyday lives. Part of that special relationship is nurtured in attending worship on a weekly basis; therefore, Mount Olive requires active membership in either Mount Olive or another Christian congregation.
Having a child baptized during the first year of enrollment — As a Lutheran Church, we believe that baptism is an important step in a Christian's life. The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has infant baptism, and encourages all Christians to be baptized as soon as possible; therefore, Mount Olive requires all students enrolled in the school to be baptized within the first year of enrollment.
Having the parent(s) attend the Adult Information Class — In order to better understand the Christian teachings that their children will receive at the school, all non-member parents are required to attend the weekly Adult Information Class. This class will explain The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod's stance on a wide variety of faith issues.
Willingness to volunteer — Mount Olive relies on the volunteer efforts of its families in order to run its many ministries and programs; therefore, it is expected that all of the school families volunteer some of their time in the running of our school ministry. Volunteer opportunities include Welcome Back Night, the fall play, Birthday Breakfast for Jesus, the basketball tournaments, the PTL, various church boards, the school picnic, and various other events that come up as the year progresses.
Willingness to partner — We understand that it can be difficult to fit in a new place, so we started a new partnering program that will help new families feel at home. New parents to the school will be partnered with current school families whose job is to better acquaint new families with the workings of the school and church and to make them feel at home.
Commitment — We are looking for families who are interested in joining a Christian school for the duration of their child's schooling and beyond.
