Photo Tour of Mount Olive's Stained Glass Windows
Mount Olive "English" Lutheran
Church was founded in 1894 and previously occupied a church building
on North 4th and West Walnut Streets in Milwaukee. Our current building
was dedicated on March 18, 1923.
The church was constructed for a cost
of $135,000. The furnishings and organ cost an additional $14,800.
The current pipe organ was installed in 1987 and contains 47 ranks
of pipes.
The architectural style is modified
Tudor Gothic. Perhaps the most striking feature of the building are
the stained glass windows. The window above the altar was manufactured
by the Milwaukee Art Glass Company and uses Tiffany glass. It depicts
Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (located on the Mount of Olives
outside Jerusalem). The remainder of the windows in the sanctuary
are from Munich, Germany and were manufactured by the Meyer firm.
They are outstanding examples of the style knows as "Munich stained
glass." The windows depict additional scenes from the life of
Jesus.
